Acad. Constantin Bălăceanu-Stolnici: 1918, after the sad year of 1917, was perhaps the most glorious year of our history

A people preserves its individuality, dignity and awareness of its importance, among other things, through its history, which, unfortunately, seems to have been forgotten today. That is why recalling, activating the momentous events of the past in the collective memory is – I believe – mandatory, especially in a society where the teachings of history are neglected to such an extent. 1918, after the sad year of 1917, was perhaps the most glorious year of our history.

The joining of Bessarabia, Bukovina, Herta Land, Maramureş, Crişana and Banat to the Romanian Kingdom was something extraordinary and unexpected in that context. The celebration of the year 1918 is a duty of every Romanian who should never forget that the successes of this year are due not only to the sacrifice of all those who were killed and injured, but also to the skill and endeavour of those who, headed by King Ferdinand, Queen Maria and Ionel Bratianu, fought in the diplomatic arena.
