Prințul Dimitrie Sturdza: I never forgot that I am Romanian, no matter where I lived
We were made to leave in 1948 and came back in 1990. I have inherited from my grandmother and my mother a tradition to help the needy.
My grandmother was, after the World War I, the chairman of the National War Orphans Office, and my mother helped thousands of orphan children to go to school. Among other things, she built an agricultural school for the poor in Iasi County. My mother, after the World War I, went to Sweden, where she was from, and brought whole trains with foodstuff and medicine and set up canteens for children who did not have anything to eat.
Personally, I rebuilt 36 old-age homes to Western European standards. I tried to continue the family tradition and I never forgot that I am Romanian, no matter where I lived.
