The thought of Romania’s past 100 years conjures up the image of a kidnapped child: Romania, born in 1918 to loving parents who, through sacrifice nurtured and made it whole, was kidnapped, abused and kept in a communist prison for close to half a century. As Romania emerged from this ordeal, it exhibits, not surprisingly, signs of confusion and maladjustment to modern day life. Yet, the experience strengthened its spirit, making it ready to seize the opportunities of the next 100 years. Fear not – Romania is here to stay!
