Nicolae Văcăroiu: The most important lesson in the history of this people should remain that union is strength
During the 100 years we celebrate in 2018, Romania has lived through experiences that marked its destiny. It was the century in which we gained fundamental rights, such as the universal vote, in which the Romanian state has been involved in two world wars, and has experienced both economic prosperity and deep economic crises.
The political system was marked by the adoption of the Constitution of 1923, which enshrined the rights and liberties, the separation of powers in the state and multipartism, mutilated or suppressed by the three Constitutions that laid the foundations of the totalitarian regime established after 1947. The 1990s brought about the rebirth of democracy in Romania, which, through sacrifice, shattered the communist oppression and stepped on the road which irreversibly, I think, places it among the modern democracies of Europe and of the world.
The most important lesson in the history of this people should remain that union is strength, so as to consolidate Romania’s democratic destiny in Europe and in the world.
