The communist regime installed in Romania in 1946 imprisoned tens of thousands of Romanians who opposed the regime, many of them being tortured to death. 14 May became the national day of the martyrs of communist prisons, also called “Prison Saints”

The 100 years since the Great Union meant for the Romanian people a continuous struggle with the vicissitudes of history, with the sizeable changes at planetary level, with older and newer enemies and, most of all, with the evil within itself. These have been years of great accomplishments, but equally of suffering and disappointment; much like the mioritic space, with its rhythmic succession of hills and valleys. The last years were almost dramatic, so that Romania seems less prepared than ever to face the great challenges of the third millennium. However, let us remain optimistic and, as always, pray to the Lord to protect Romania!
