One hundred years – a start! Future belongs to us only as far as we define it ourselves. From the perspective of the anticipatory science, future is what matters. In the unavoidable geopolitics of global economy, only what is special and valuable is acknowledged and rewarded. A Romania of the ideas, of the young talents, of originality and authenticity is the only chance to give meaning to the 100-year anniversary. Let’s be honest with ourselves: these 100 years are celebrated in a world in which values do not matter, but the brutality used to impose a common denominator. The only chance for those who make Romania a different human reality is not to become like everyone else in the world. Any fashion, wherever it may come from, passes. This simple truth deserves to be rediscovered, in the context in which liberty, which Romanians hungered after for such a long time, can be mistaken for the seduction of imitating others’ successes. In our rush towards the future, it matters less who gets first the endpoint – in Silicon Valley, the future champions have more money than they will ever manage to spend – but rather the end in view. After all, it does not matter who is the first to reach the goal, but rather what goal we want to reach. Romania, with the friends whom I hug dearly, is more important than planet Facebook, where we collect each other, but have not the slightest idea of who we really are.
