When I think of December 1st, I feel, deep in my soul, the tears of my maternal grandfather, a simple but fierce peasant, proud like a fir tree, from Habic. He too was then in Alba Iulia! And he was so proud of it! Proud to have been there, along with Bishop Iuliu Hosu and the others, at the Great Union, at the Union with the Country, with the Mother Country! Those tears have made me understand what the love of God, of the Church and the love of the country is, those tears have helped me understand what “your people” means and what the love of the motherland feels like.
