Alina Cojocaru (n. 1981), first ballerina of the English National Ballet. She was designated the ballerina of the decade in 2010. In April 2002, she was awarded the ‘’Medal for Merit’’ by the President of Romania
Since I was nine, the world of the ballet has generously opened doors for me and a wealth of possibilities to meet people and countries around the world. I returned when I was 35, with an open heart, with hope and passion, dedicated to sharing everything I am with ballet artists and with the audience of my country. Under the coordination of a special person, a foreigner who fell in love with Romania, I witnessed an unprecedented transformation process.
Reality or a mere dream – creation and development, found in any theatre worldwide. After only two years, we were chased away with scorn, lies and hatred, I realized it has been a mere dream. Words fail to describe what a heart feels when it bursts with love and dreams come true; there are also no words to say how a heart feels when it is broken and trampled under the foot. History tells us it is not the the first time. What else should happen in order for us not to reiterate our mistakes?
Will Romania ever awaken? A country that lives with a lot of pain, with people going through life blindly and forgotten … Hoping that, one day, there will be more to love and cherish it as we, two strangers, Alina and Johan, loved it.
